Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! There may be circumstances when it may be beneficial to the therapy process for me to speak with another individual involved with your care such as your family doctor, counselor, physiotherapist, etc.
Your personal and medical information is confidential and will only be disclosed to third parties with your permission.
Yes! Please consult with your claim specialist, case manager, or rehabilitation consultant if they will offer occupational therapy services to support your recovery. In some cases, you can request for a specific provider to work with you as part of your return to work journey.
If you have any additional questions about this, please feel free to contact me.
Absolutely! As an occupational therapist, I focus on how your symptoms, personal factors, activities, and environment impact the way you are able to participate in daily life, with or without a diagnosis.
No, I do not offer direct billing for extended benefit plans. Unfortunately, currently many health plans do not include occupational therapy coverage.
I would suggest that you check with your health benefits plan if occupational therapy is covered. If so, I collect payments upfront directly from you and you may be required to submit your receipts for reimbursement, depending on the coverage amount of your health plan.
Any clients who have been referred to OT services through a disability-related claim will have their OT services directly invoiced to, and covered by, their insurance claim.
Ask for OT: If you feel so inclined to do so, please consider helping the advocacy efforts for the profession of occupational therapy by sending a letter to your insurance provider to cover occupational therapy services under their extended benefits plan. Feel free to review this web page on guidance on how to advocate for OT!
No, at this time I only offer community- and virtual-based services. The location of services is determined based on your needs and preferences. See below for further details.
IN-PERSON SESSIONS:
– Home visits allow me to meet you in person in the comfort of your own home and if required, further assess the environment that you live in.
– Community visits provide the option to meet in a public space such as local parks, coffee shops, community centres, etc. Locations are chosen based on your preference and purpose of the sessions. For example, at a park for nature-based therapy, outdoors for increasing walking tolerances, coffee shops for sensory exposure, or specific locations for exposure therapy.
–Workplace visits are most suited for work-related services such as Ergonomic Assessments, Workplace Accommodation Assessments, Job Site Visits, among others.
Please note that there are privacy and confidentiality limitations in public settings and additional travel costs (at my hourly rate) associated with in-person appointments.
VIRTUAL SESSIONS:
– Telehealth video sessions are conducted on the secure video conferencing platform, Jane App, which meets Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) compliance. Clients will need a smartphone/ tablet/ computer/ laptop, internet connection, and a private space for conversation.
The Jane App is very user friendly. If you have ever made a video call with Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom, then you are ready to go!
– Phone services are offered in the case that clients do not have access to a reliable internet connection or have a preference over phone rather than video.
Virtual sessions increase accessibility to those who cannot meet in person due to various reasons such as far geographical location and travel cost savings.
If you are still uncertain as to what mode of services would be best suited for you, please feel free to contact me.
My hourly service fees are aligned with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) Private Practice OT Services Suggested Fee Guide. Please contact me for more information on my fees.
My travel fees are billed at the full professional hourly rate with no separate mileage charge. I always try my best to book clients in one area on the same day so that travel costs may be prorated between the multiple visits in one area. For an estimate on how much travel fees would be from my location in Vancouver, please contact me.
