I am a Vancouver-based Registered Occupational Therapist.
I believe that meeting you where you are at and establishing a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship is imperative to your recovery and rehabilitation success. As such, I acknowledge that various social influences, such as race, class, gender, sexual orientation, culture, neurodivergence, and ability/disability impact one’s occupational choice, safety, and participation. This lens guides my empathetic approach to provide collaborative, culturally safe, and inclusive care.
My work is informed by a variety of evidence based approaches in occupational therapy. As an engaged and lifelong learner, I am committed to growing professionally and personally by continually seeking out learning opportunities. As of 2024, I have completed training in the following areas:
In addition, my practice is informed by various lenses and psychotherapeutic approaches:
Working with Alex
Upon meeting, I take the time to understand your experience of how your health condition(s) and other factors have disrupted or impacted the way you live your life. I work with you one-on-one to create personalized goals and support you to participate in or re-engage with meaningful activities (i.e. occupations).
Throughout our sessions, you can expect to gain a better understanding of yourself and your health condition(s), learn skills and strategies to better manage your symptoms, and be empowered to take actionable and realistic steps towards your goals and values, all while working collaboratively to problem-solve any challenges that may arise.
For ergonomic assessments, I go beyond basic equipment recommendations and incorporate a holistic assessment and recommendations based on environmental, sensory, behavioural, and task-based factors to support return-to-work or stay-at-work.
More about Alex
I strive to actively practice what I teach; I practice gratitude, movement, and deep breathing and prioritize doing the things I love to better manage my own pain and stress and be of greater service to others.
Outside of work, you’ll find me connecting with my community and family, traveling, or trying new recipes or restaurants. In the winter months, I volunteer with Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (VASS) where I teach skiing to individuals with disabilities to promote fun and inclusion in sport. Year-round, you’ll find me enjoying the local mountains, ocean, and forest with my spouse, dog, family, and friends.
